The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named McHenry County College's Cole Hansel as the Baseball Division II Player of the Week for April 23-29 (Week 14). The national honor is the first such award for Hansel, and the third for the Scots after Alex Cimaroli won player of the week for Week 10 and Matt Steinhoff took home pitcher of the week accolades in Week 13.
Hansel, sophomore infielder from Edwardsville, Illinois, drove in 18 runs, posted a 1.029 slugging percentage, and hit for the cycle as MCC went 8-1 during the week. Over the nine games he played in, Hansel went 19 for 34 (.559) with eight extra base hits and 17 runs scored. He went 4 for 4 with three runs scored and two batted in during a 10-0 win over Moraine Valley Community College, drove in five runs on three hits in an 11-10 losing effort at Elgin Community College, and belted two home runs, a triple, and a double as he hit for the cycle in a 5 for 5 performance at the College of DuPage. He finished the game with six RBI and five runs scored in a 22-4 victory.
The Scots, ranked #9 in the NJCAA Division II Poll, are 40-12 and the top seed for the NJCAA Region IV Division II Tournament that will begin this weekend with a home sectional best-of-three series against the College of Lake County.
