Matthews opened the week with a 29-point outing in a 94-69 win over Carl Sandburg College. At the John Wood Community College New Year's Eve Classic in Quincy, Illinois, he scored 23 points in a 66-52 defeat of John Wood CC, and followed it up with a 33-point game as the Bulldogs lost 82-78 to Moberly Area Community College.
