MESA, ARIZ. - Following a rough third round, the Black Hawk College men's golf team posted their best single-day score on the final day of competition to finish 14th overall at the 2017 NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship at Long Bow Golf Club. The Braves finished with a four day total of 1,255 (+119), 100 shots back of overall champion Mesa (AZ) Community College. Waubonsee Community College placed 20th as a team with a total score of 1,315 (+179).
Black Hawk opened with consistent rounds of 313 and 312, but struggled to a 323 on Day 3. The final round saw BHC register a 307, tying for the tenth best team total of the day.
Dennis Reedy led the way with a 296 (+12) tally to finish tied for 17th, one shot away from earning Honorable Mention All-American. Colin Troxler of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College took the individual title with a two-under 282.Other counted scores for the Braves included Austin Jump with a 320 (+36) to tie for 85th, Jacob Beck tied for 92nd at 322 (+38), and Lake Koenig and Ryan Hurley each shot a 327 (+43) to sit tied for 104th.
Waubonsee began the tournament with its worst overall performance of 339, and followed it up with rounds of 318, 323, and 335. Jackson Clark paced the Chiefs with a 27-over-par 311 to tie for 62nd. Ben Melms signed off on a total of 321 (+37) for a tie at 89th place. The remaining scores for Waubonsee were Ram Rogue at 339 (+55) and Jesse Denton with a 344 (+60).
Alex Martinez of Moraine Valley Community College carded a four day total of 26-over-par (310) to tie for 56th overall, while Stephen Bukielski from Oakton Community College posted a 315 (+31) for a tie of 71st and Ryan Hansen of Carl Sandburg College placed 84th with a 39-over-par 319. Oakton's Chris Blaha shot a 332 (+48), and Illinois Valley Community College teammates Carter Piercy and Conner Soenksen scored a 347 (+63) and 362 (+78), respectively.
