FOLEY, ALAB. - With steady improvement each day at the 2018 NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships at Glen Lakes Golf Club, the Black Hawk College men's golf team wound up 13th overall, one spot better than their team finish in 2017. The Braves registered a 70-over-par 1,222, five shots back of 12th place East Central Community College (MS). Austin Jump was the top BHC finisher with a 12-over-par 300 to place tied for 38th overall.
Black Hawk College, which shot a 1,255 a year ago to finish 14th overall, opened competition with a 318 to sit in last place among team qualifiers after the first 18 holes. However, the Braves improved by an average of 7.33 shots per round, finishing with single day totals of 307-301-296 to move up two spots in the team standings, 19 shots ahead of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Jump, a sophomore from Geneseo, Illinois, opened with a nine-over-par 81 before shooting at or just above par each of the final three days with a 73-74-72 finish. Lake Koenig went 78-77-74-76 for a 17-over 305 to finish tied for 51st overall. Alex Grell and Jeff Perez carded scores within one stroke of each other at 311 (79-81-78-73/+23) and 312 (81-80-75-76/+24), respectively. The Braves did not count a 316 (80-77-84-75/+28) from Jacob Beck. Leon D'Souza of South Mountain Community College (AZ) was the tournament champion with a eight-under-par 280 (73-71-67-69).
