Thanks to impressive runs through the Region IV tournament and deep into the NJCAA Softball World Series, Kankakee Community College and Waubonsee Community College each placed two players on the 2017 NJCAA Division II All-American Teams. Beth Mersinger of Kankakee and Courtni Neubauer of Waubonsee both received second-team All-American distinction, while the Cavaliers Baylie Ullmark and the Chiefs Alycia DeLuca were selected as third-team honorees.
Mersinger, a sophomore infielder, batted .480 with 15 home runs, 101 RBI, and 62 runs scored.
Neubauer, a sophomore outfielder, hit .462, scored 95 runs, and drove in 23 more, while also stealing 71 bases.
Ullmark, a sophomore pitcher, posted a 24-9 record and a 2.84 ERA. She struck out 141 batters and walked just 56 in her 192.0 innings of work, highlighted by 22 complete game efforts.
DeLuca, a sophomore pitcher, went 14-7 with a 2.92 ERA, 121 strikeouts, and 44 walks in 131.2 innings.
