The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Rock Valley College's Breanna Crown as the Division III Pitcher of the Week for April 30-May 6 (Week 15). This is Crown's third Pitcher of the Week award after also winning it following Week 7 and Week 12, while the Golden Eagles have earned an impressive total of four national weekly awards in 2018.
Crown, a freshman from Davis Junction, Illinois, posted wins over Cuyahoga Community College (OH) and Joliet Junior College during the week, as well as a save against the Wolves. Crown went five innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts in the 10-2 defeat of Cuyahoga. Then at the Region IV Division III Tournament, she tossed a five-inning, two-hit shutout with a pair of K's to lead RVC to a 13-0 semifinal victory over Joliet. One day later, Crown returned to the circle for the final 2 1/3 innings and surrendered just one hit while retiring three batters via strikeout in a 10-7 win for her first save of the season as the Golden Eagles claimed their fifth consecutive Region IV title. For the week, Crown pitched 12-plus innings and allowed one earned run on ten hits and struck out eight batters.
The four-time defending national champions will return to the NJCAA Division III National Championships, starting May 17 in Rochester, Minnesota.
