SVCC's Rhea earns NJCAA Player of the Week honor

The National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) has named Sommer Rhea of Sauk Valley Community College as the Division II Player of the Week for September 11-17 (Week 3). The honor is the first of the season for Rhea and the first of the year for the Skyhawks.

Rhea, a 5'9" sophomore outside hitter, helped SVCC to seven match wins during the week, including five via a three-set sweep. In those matches, the Oregon, Illinois, native posted 94 kills on 221 attempts for a .221 attack percentage, and averaged 3.48 kills per set. Defensively, Rhea registered 85 digs, good for a 3.14 per set average. Additionally, she had 11 service aces and five blocks.

Rhea and the Skyhawks are 15-3 on the season, 12-0 in Region IV, and 3-0 in the Arrowhead Conference. They are currently ranked #10 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.
