Madison matches own NJCAA record with another Region 4 championship
MADISON, WISC. - Madison College's run of dominance has now reached record-setting levels after the top-seeded WolfPack claimed their fifth consecutive Region 4 title and their 11th overall with an 11-2 win over #4-seeded Kankakee Community College in a winner-take-all title game on May 18. Top-seeded Madison earned it's sixth straight trip to the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series, matching its own National Junior College Athletic Association record set from 2010 to 2015. Freshman shortstop Jalen Gellings was named the Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player, while coach Mike Davenport received his 12th Region 4 Coach of the Year award with the Pack. (Recap: Madison)
After eliminating #8-seed Morton College and #12-seed College of Lake County in the Region 4 Sectional Tournament, the WolfPack got to work in the Region 4 Tournament with a 5-1 win over the Kankakee. A lopsided 9-1 victory in eight innings over #3-seed Rock Valley College in the semifinals put Madison back in the championship, where they would take on the Cavaliers after KCC stayed alive with dramatic wins of 10-9 and 17-13 over #2-seed Black Hawk College and RVC, respectively, in elimination games. That hot streak carried into the championship round, with Kankakee stunning Madison College with a 9-0 shutout to force a winner-take-all game. The WolfPack left no doubt in their second try, scoring one run in each of the first four innings to build a ten-run lead before eventually taking the 11-2 decision.

ENID, OKLA. - Making their 13th appearance at the 2024 NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series, and their 18th overall appearance at a NJCAA national tournament, Madison College, ranked #12 in the final NJCAA Division II Poll, opened as the #6-seed and earned a run-ruled victory over #11-seed Montgomery College by an 11-1 score in five innings. A second round matchup with #3-seed - and top-ranked - East Central Community College saw the WolfPack fall behind 10-1 after five innings; however, a six-run sixth inning ignited a miraculous comeback and a 12-10 upset win to send the WolfPack to the quarterfinals. The victory also marked win number 1,100 in junior college baseball for coach Mike Davenport. Awaiting was #2-seed Brunswick Community College, who held off Madison with a 7-2 decision. A rematch against ECCC in an elimination game nearly brought a sense of déjà vu, with the Warriors surging to a 9-1 lead after two innings. The WolfPack closed the gap to 9-4, but four runs in the sixth led to a run-rule finish in seven innings with a 13-4 setback. Madison College finished the season with a 39-14 record.
