SSC's Washington named NJCAA DII Player of the Year, All-American

Charlotte, NC - South Suburban (IL) guard Deshawndre Washington has been named the 2021 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year, presented by the Marines.
Washington led the nation in scoring by averaging 27.0 points per game and scoring a total of 702 points on the year. The sophomore also averaged 13.5 rebounds per game, while earning double-doubles in 22 games this season. While being a strong offensive player, Washington also was strong on the defensive side of the ball. He finished fourth in the nation in steals with 2.7 per game and second in the nation in blocks with 2.8 per game.
The 6-foot, 7-inch guard led the Bulldogs to a 20-6 record, a Midwest District Championship, and a berth in the NJCAA DII Men's Basketball Tournament. Competing as the No. 3 seed in Danville, Washington averaged 29.25 points per game over four games. Washington's national tournament campaign also included a 36-point, 13-rebound performance in a win over North Central Missouri. Washington garnered NJCAA DII Men's Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
Washington's performances during the regular season garnered honors on the regional level as well. Washington was named to the Region 4 All-Tournament Team and earned Region 4 MVP award after scoring 31-points and adding 12-rebounds in the Midwest District Championship game.
