Madison College reaches third Region 4 title in five years
MADISON, WISC. - For the third time in five years, Madison College sits atop the Region 4 mountain after beating second-seeded Harper College 3-0 to win the 2021 NJCAA Region 4 Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. The top-seeded WolfPack, who also won Regoin 4 crowns in 2017 and 2019, were led by Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player Sydney Maksymo, a first year defender, and Region 4 Coach of the Year Matt Schwartz.
Madison College, who advanced to the championship match with a forfeit win over fourth-seeded Illinois Valley Community College, took a 1-0 lead in the 21' with an Alexis Kulow goal, and then pulled away in the 61' and 71' with scoring strikes from Angelina Perez and Elizabeth Foye, respectively.
The championship sent the WolfPack on to the NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournament, which they would also host. Madison College gutted out a tough 1-0 victory over Region 13 winner Rochester Community & Technical College thanks to the first career goal of freshman Paris Rose. The other semifinal saw Region 4 runner-up Harper College suffer a 19-0 setback to defending national champion Delta College (MI). With a spot in the 2021 NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships on the line, eventual national runner-up Delta College got past the WolfPack with a 5-0 decision. Madison College capped the year with a 9-5-1 record, while the Hawks were 4-5.
