Third place finish for DuPage tops Region 4 representation at national tournaments
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The College of DuPage, Carl Sandburg College, and Milwaukee Area Technical College all made the trip to Iowa to compete in their respective national tournaments. The Chaparrals, two years removed from winning taking the crown, placed third at the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships, while the Chargers and Stormers went a combined 1-4 at the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championships.
DuPage opened as the #11 seed in the 16-team field and sent an early message with a 3-1 upset of #6-seeded Butler County Community College to advance to the quarterfinals that same night. The Chaparrals kept the victory train rolling with another upset, sweeping #3-seeded Finger Lakes Community College 3-0. In the semifinals, COD drew #2-seeded Minnesota West Community & Technical College. The Blue Jays proved to be too much in a 3-0 sweep by the eventual national runners-up. The setback sent the College of DuPage to the third place match, where they needed all five sets and some additional points to take down #5-seeded Century College with a 3-2 win. Sophomore middle hitter Josie Becker was named to the All-Tournament Team. DuPage finishes their season with a 24-15 record. (Recaps: Matches #1 & #2 | Match #3 | Match #4)
