ONE FINAL TIME: Prairie State secures 11th Region 4 title in program's final season

PARK FOREST, ILL. - The Prairie State College men's tennis team is going out on top, winning the 2026 Region 4 Division II Men's Tennis Tournament in the program's final year of existense. The Pioneers rolled to an 11.5 point win over runners-up College of Lake County to secure their third consecutive title and 11th Region 4 crown all-time. Sophomore Yoog Gundani was named the Region 4 Player of the Year, while Betsy Poggensee of Lake County earned Region 4 Coach of the Year.
Former Oakton College Athletic Director Receives Prestigious Service Award

Des Plaines, Ill. — Former Oakton College athletic director and longtime coach Tom Jorndt received the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 Berdy Kuiken Service Award, celebrating his decades of service to collegiate athletics at Oakton and nationally. The award was presented June 5 during the NJCAA Region 4 athletic directors meeting at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove. Jorndt received a standing ovation from colleagues, former student-athletes, family and fellow college athletics leaders.
94 Region 4 Spring Student-Athletes earn NJCAA All-American honors

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released its list of All-Americans for the 2024-25 spring sports season, and 94 student-athletes representing Region 4 were recognized. The group includes 66 from men's and women's track & field, ten in women's golf, seven from baseball, six in softball, three from men's golf, and two in men's tennis. There are 35 first team recipients, 31 second team honorees, four third team selections, and 22 honorable mention distinctions. The student-athletes represent 13 Region 4 institutions.

TYLER, TEXAS & CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - Several teams and student-athletes represented Region 4 at the NJCAA Men's & Women's Tennis Championships during the month of May. The College of DuPage men's team came away with the best finish, taking fourth in the Division III event, and even saw their top doubles tandem earn All-American accolades.

PARK FOREST, ILL. - Prairie State College ran away from the competition to win their third straight - and ninth overall - Region 4 Division I Men's Tennis Tournament title on April 26. The Pioneers finished with 27 points, a full dozen points ahead of second place College of Lake County with 15 points. McHenry County College was third with seven points. Andres Riveros of PSC earned Player of the Year, while Jim Stockwell of the Scots was named Region 4 Coach of the Year.

PARK FOREST, ILL. & PLANO, TEX. - The Prairie State College men's tennis team continued their recent dominance with a repeat Region 4 Men's Tennis Tournament championship on April 27. The Pioneers racked up 27.0 points to finish ahead of runner-up College of Lake County at 15.5 points for their second consecutive title and eighth overall. Prairie State College did not lose a match during the regular season or postseason against another Region 4 opponent. Sophomore Nick Velders, who went undefeated in 2023 en route to the No. 2 Singles championship, equaled that feat to secure the No. 1 Singles title and earn Region 4 Player of the Year honors. Region 4 Hall of Fame welcomes nine-member Class of 2024 for induction

The NJCAA Region 4 Hall of Fame is pleased to announce a nine-member induction Class of 2024. The group includes six student-athletes and three coaches that excelled during their time competing in Region 4. The inductees represent six different Region 4 schools, including two inductees each for the College of DuPage, Oakton College, and Rock Valley College.

Lake County's Love recognized at NJCAA national tournament

MCKINNEY, TEXAS & OXFORD, GEORGIA - While several Region 4 teams and players competed at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennnis Championships and the NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, the biggest winner of the week was College of Lake County Head Coach Jim Love. Love was awarded the Herschel Stephens Coaching Award after taking the Lancers to their sixth consecutive national tournament.

AURORA, ILL. - After a back-to-back years in second place, Prairie State College returned to the top of the Region 4 Division I Men's Tennis Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Pioneers racked up 23.5 points to finish ahead of the two-time defending champs from the College of Lake County, who tallied 18.5 points. The Lancers Billy Friedman was named the Region 4 Most Valuable Player, while PSC's Donn Gobbie earned Region 4 Coach of the Year after guiding the team to its seventh region crown.

SWEET SPRING: DuPage wins men's, women's national T&F championships, places top four in men's golf & tennis

It was an unbelievable spring to be wearing Forest Green around Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The College of DuPage, which already claimed a football national championship back in the fall, capped the 2021-22 athletic calendar with a quartet of national tournament qualifiers and two more championship banners. The men's and women's track programs both successfully defended their 2021 national titles with first place finishes at the NJCAA Division III Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Troy, New York, from May 12-14, marking the third time in school history they have won championships in the same year. In addition, the Chaparrals' men's golf team finished third at the NJCAA Division III Golf Championships in Chautauqua, New York, from June 7-10, and the COD men's tennis squad generated a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Oxford, Georgia, from May 13-15.
DuPage upends IVCC for Region 4 title, places fourth at NJCAA championships

ELMHURST, ILL. - The College of DuPage dominated the 2022 NJCAA Region 4 Division III Men's Tennis Championships, winning all nine matches in a head-to-head showdown with Illinois Valley Community College on April 29. The win marks the firts Region 4 crown for the Chaparrals since 2011. Freshman Jake Anderson was named Region 4 Tournament Most Valuable Player, while coach Jim Bowers received the Region 4 Coach of the Year award.
